Invasion of the Earwigs!!

Is it just at our house or is everyone inundated with earwigs lately? These fierce looking little bugs with their pincher behinds give me the "Heebie Jeebies", but our chickens absolutely love them! I've been trapping them in little cups, with a small bit of oil in them, sunk in the ground in my raised garden beds. It works great! I then strain them out of the oil and feed them to the hens. It's a raucous race to see who can eat them the quickest. Lots of squawking and pecking and feathers flying...it's better than TV! Oh how we love country living!

Does anyone else have tricks for catching earwigs?
Does anyone know why they are so prolific this year?
