Welcome to the Garden Farms Community Resource Network; a place for all of our ideas, resources, events, announcements, etc...A place to connect and keep up with what's going on daily in our community.
My girls and I found an Anise Swallowtail caterpillar on a patch of wild fennel a few weeks back. At that time he was about the size of a grain of rice. We brought him home and kept him fed and happy for 10 days until he made his chrysalis. After another 10 days or so he hatched into a beautiful Anise Swallowtail Butterfly. The metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly always amazes and fascinates us. Even though we have raised numerous Monarchs in the same way over the years, the transformation is still truly remarkable and miraculous every time! I have noticed both wild fennel and milkweed, which is the host plant for Monarch caterpillars, in our neighborhood. I hope, in our diligence in eradicating invasive weeds, that we will all take the time to recognize these two butterfly and caterpillar food sources. Spring has sprung and with it - here come the kittens! I’ll be doing another round of trapping again, as soon as Woods gives me the go ahead, and I have enough funds for 5 more cats. This is an ongoing project that I enjoy doing and I feel is important if we are ever going to get the feral cat population under control here in Garden Farms so, I will always accept donations. Thanks to all of you who have donated already! I‘ve got spay/neuter certificates for each cat altered and am happy to make those available to anyone who would like to see them. Please let me know if there is an area near you that is particularly dense with cats and I will focus my trapping efforts there next go round. Thanks again!
