It was an amazing thing to witness as Garden Farms neighbors Rob & Karyn Kimmel and PJ Robertson were able to capture a swarm of bees at the north end of Walnut yesterday. Tipped off by JoAnn Murin (who's highly allergic) that there was a swarm on the ground near her mailbox, Mayor Monica quickly called veteran bee keeper Rob Kimmel. Rob called PJ Robertson, who is a novice bee keeper, knowing that she has been dreaming of having a local swarm. Together these intrepid folks worked gently to cut back the vinca surrounding the swarm. As bees swarmed all around them, PJ worked calmly and quietly to set the bees into a box held by Karyn. No stings were reported by PJ and the mission was a beautiful success for all involved including the bees who will now become permanent (hopefully) residents of Garden Farms to the benefit of us all!
